7/25/2011 - Tickle is Hard Charger at Washougal

Irvine, Calif. (July 25, 2011) – The Hard Charger honor was the come-from-behind effort of Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Broc Tickle who moved from 39th to 16th in the first moto of the 250 class to end the day with a 16-9 for 10th overall.

Hard Charger

While it looked like Weimer might have had a chance at the Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger award, Tickle might have edged him out with his impressive second moto performance. He entered the second moto with a ninth-place finish from the first moto, but after a crash in the first moto and then getting hit by another rider, he started the second lap in 39th. He went to work and went out to prove that he didn’t want to give up as he picked off riders all the way up to 16th place for a top-10 overall finish.

“I seem to have an okay moto and then something happens in the other moto,” said Tickle. “Not sure how I can change that except for maybe getting the holeshot, but I didn’t want to give up. It was a hard second moto and the track was the most challenging of the day. I wish I could have broken into the top-15 that moto, but I think I rode well and I am pretty sure my team saw that.”

“I’m actually really happy for the whole team and that everyone has been riding great,” said Mitch Payton, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki Team Owner. “Broc is getting left out a little bit, but he has been riding great. Today he went from last to finish almost in the top-15. I know he can be up there. They are doing such a good job and they all make me proud.”

Two Weekends Off

After eight rounds of racing, the AMA Motocross Championship series will take two weekends off as the motocross focus shifts to the up-and-coming amateurs at the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, taking place at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. The series will pick back up on August 13 at Unadilla in New Berlin, N.Y.
